IIT Varanasi has opened its admission for the academic session 2025-2026. Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi earlier known as the Banaras Engineering College was established in 1919, and in 2012 it was renamed the Institute of Technology of India Banaras Hindu University. It has become a prominent place where thousands of students come every year to shape their careers. In 1968, three colleges, Banaras Engineering College (founded in 1919), College of Technology, and College of Mining and Metallurgy merged and became the IIT BHU to provide more facilities to the engineering students. Later in 2012, it was named as Indian Institute of Technology, Varanasi. The institute is approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and All India Council for Technical Education(AICTE) and has top faculties, an excellent placement cell, well-equipped labs, on-campus hostels, clubs, and many other facilities to offer students. The institute has been gaining popularity among students all over India even international students for its placement-oriented quality education in the fields of Engineering, Technology and Science.
The IIT BHU courses are offered at UG, PG and PhD levels, in the field of engineering and applied science. The degrees offered are B.Tech, B.Arch, B.Tech + M.Tech, M.Tech, M.Sc and PhD. The institute also offers part-time courses alongside regular courses for both domestic and international students. The IIT Varanasi fees range from Rs 10,000 to Rs 1,00,000 per semester (tuition fee).
The IIT BHU placements are organised by the dedicated and very active Training and Placement Cell (T&P Cell). 100% placement assistance is provided to the students. In recent placements, the IIT Varanasi’s highest package recorded was Rs1.68 crore per annum. The top recruiters were Unilever, Visa, Jio, Myntra, Bajaj, Intel, HP, MasterCard, Phonepe, Google, Apple, etc. The IIT BHU placement cell also arranges many workshops, soft skill development programmes, etc. to prepare the students for the future.
IIT Varanasi course admissions are conducted based on entrance exam scores and counselling. To be eligible for application, candidates must also meet the basic eligibility requirements for their desired programme. The applications are to be done online on the exam’s official portal. The exams accepted for admission are JEE Advanced, GATE and IIT JAM.
IIT Varanasi NIRF Ranking: The institute was ranked in the 31st position in the Overall category with a score of 57.08. The NIRF 2023 engineering, ranking secured by the institute was 15th with a score of 63.74. IIT BHU appeared in the NIRF Ranking list under the Overall and Engineering headings.
