SRM Institute of Science and Technology, formerly known as the SRM University was established in 1985. It has a total of 8 campuses, and one such campus is located in Kattankulathur, Chennai. SRM University is approved by the UGC and AICTE. According to the QS World University Rankings 2025, the university is ranked 1001-1200 globally in the ‘World University’ category. SRM University NIRF Ranking 2024 is 21st in the overall category. It is accredited by NBA, IET Engineering, the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET, and the NAAC with an A++ Grade. SRM University campus is spread over 250+ acres of land comprising 42 blocks and provides education to 50,000+ students. The 250+ acres campus has facilities such as classrooms, spacious labs, libraries, a knowledge centre, an AC-equipped auditorium, prayer halls, high-speed wi-fi, bookstores, cafeterias, etc.

SRM University courses are offered at graduate, postgraduate, diploma, PG diploma, and doctoral levels. With a total of 3200+ academicians, the university offers 41 courses such as BTech, BCom, BArch, BDS, BCA, MTech, MDS, MSc, MHA, MArch, etc. SRM University admissions are offered to all its courses based on entrance exam scores as well as merit for other programs. In 2024, Rs 52 LPA was the highest package provided during the SRM University placements. Around 60 organisations and businesses, including BITS Pilani Goa and Toyo University in Japan, have partnered with SRM Chennai.
