NIT Surathkal was established as Karnataka Regional Engineering College (KREC) in the year 1960 which was upgraded as the National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK) in the year 2002. The institute has emerged as one of the most eminent engineering and technological institutes in Karnataka. NIT Surathkal is one of the top engineering colleges of Karnataka situated in Mangalore district beside the Arabian Sea on the western coast of the country. It is an autonomous institute and is approved by AICTE for conducting technical education. There are many academic and extracurricular facilities at NIT Surathkal. As per the NIRF Ranking 2024, NIT Surathkal has secured the 12th position in the engineering category.
The college offers various UG and PG courses. NIT Surathkal courses range in disciplines such as B.Tech, M.Tech, MCA, M.Sc and MBA. The admission to the courses is purely subject to the eligibility criteria and the performance in common entrance tests taken in respective fields.

NIT Surathkal Courses and Fees 2025
NIT Surathkal fees range from Rs 15000 to Rs 125000 per year, depending on the degree level, duration and specialization of the course. The college offers 59 courses at Ph.D, PG and UG programmes. Furthermore, NIT Surathkal offers 13 courses in B.Tech at the UG level. At the PG level, the students can choose a wide range of specializations – 30 courses in M.Tech, 2 course in MSc. Admission to NIT Surathkal courses are open for the academic year 2024-25. For admission the college accepts JEE Main/ KCET for BTech, CAT for MBA, GATE for MTech, and IIT JAM for MSc.
