The Sikkim Manipal University (SMU), formerly known as the Sikkim Manipal University of Health, Medical, and Technological Sciences, was founded on November 15, 1992, as a result of an agreement between the Government of Sikkim and the Manipal Pai Foundation to provide exemplary education and health care services in Sikkim and across the country. It is the country’s first-ever Public-Private Partnership in higher education and health care. There are two campuses at the university. The Medical and Technology campuses. The government of Sikkim provides a grant of Rs 2.25 crore per annum for the hospital, against which CRH offers free treatment to BPL families and concessional treatment to other state residents. The Sikkim Manipal University was established in 1995 vide the Sikkim Manipal University of Health, Medical and Technological Sciences Act (Act No. 9 of 1995). The University Grants Commission recognizes SMU under Section 2 (f) of the UGC Act, 1956, vide letter No. F.9-7/96(CPP-I) dated December 9, 1998, and approved by the Government of India.

The Sikkim Manipal University courses are run by the university are approved by regulatory bodies like the Medical Council of India (MCI), Nursing Council of India, Indian Association of Physiotherapy, All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE), and Distance Education Council. The university offers a blend of new age and conventional courses. The new age courses are known as Job Ready Degrees. Sikkim Manipal University Job Ready Degrees are BTech and BBA. Sikkim Manipal University admissions are based on the overall merit and performance of the students in the entrance exams.

Sikkim Manipal University fees for undergraduate courses like B.Tech and MBBS is Rs 15.4 lakh and Rs 2.6 lakh – 3.4 lakh respectively. Programmes offered by are approved by regulatory bodies like Medical Council of India (MCI), Nursing Council of India, Indian Association of Physiotherapy, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and the Distance Education Council. Sikkim Manipal University fees for M.Tech range from Rs 1.65 lakh – 1.74 lakh depending on the specialisation. The university also offers various scholarships and financial aid. Sikkim Manipal University Hostel Fee Structure

Sikkim Manipal University hostel provides a cot, mattress, study table, chair, book rack, and wardrobe for every student. Every hostel has uninterrupted electricity, hot water facility during the winter period, water cooler with Aquaguard filters, recreation hall, gymnasium, and indoor games facilities. Sikkim Manipal University hostel fees is different depending on the type of room selected. For Double Sharing (Non-AC) the annual hostel fees is Rs 49,300. For Single (Non-AC), the Sikkim Manipal University hostel fees is Rs Rs 71,400 per year. The hostel fees should be paid at the time of registration/admission.
