The university was established by the All-India Society for Electronics and Computer Technology (AISECT) on November 3, 2006. It is the first private university in Chhattisgarh. The university is named after a renowned Indian physicist and Nobel Laureate, who was also the first president and founding member of the Indian Institutes of Sciences, Dr. C.V. Raman.
